Is
there a charge for participation?
No, there is
no cost associated with attending KPCW. Students and families, however,
are responsible for their travel expenses to and from college campuses.
What
is Kansas Private College Week?
Kansas Private College Week (KPCW)
was created to give Kansas high school students an easy, convenient way
to learn, first hand, about the state’s private colleges. All eighteen
colleges and universities will have a morning session and an afternoon
session designed to acquaint students and their friends and families with
the college’s program offerings, facilities, financial aid, and
people. This is a fun, efficient way for you to learn a lot in a short
time and to begin to gather the information and impressions you will need
to choose your college.
When
is Kansas Private College Week?
KPCW is held during the first full
week of June each year. In 2008, the event will be take place the week
of June 2 – 6. Each day of that week, our colleges will hold a morning
(9 a.m.) and an afternoon (1:30 p.m.) session.
Where
are the Kansas Private College Week site locations?
KPCW will take
place on the campuses of the eighteen colleges and universities who are
members of the Kansas Independent College Association (KICA). To find
locations and directions, please visit our Locations/Driving
Directions
page.
What
if I only want to visit one college?
That’s
fine. Simply go to the KPCW Registration
page, fill out the Student Information, and select the appropriate day,
time, and college from the drop-down menus. Then hit Submit Form.
Is
there enough time to visit all the colleges in one day?
No. KPCW is organized so that individual campus visits are scheduled in
the morning and afternoon. In turn, up to 10 different colleges could
be visited during the week. To coordinate planning and minimize travel
time, please see the Locations/Driving
Directions
page.
What
would I do during my time at the college?
Each college or university will coordinate and plan their own campus visit
activities. Some will start with a tour—from dorms to academic buildings
to football stadiums—others will begin with a quick snack or a question
and answer period or a discussion of financial aid opportunities. However,
if there are specific items you would like to see included or addressed
during your visit, you can directly contact the college
prior to your visit.
What
should I bring with me?
Eighteen great
colleges and universities are ready and waiting to give you a glimpse
of what college life on their campus is all about. All you really need
is comfortable clothing, then hit the highway to begin your campus visits.
Feel free to bring your parents, other family members, or friends.
Will
I be able to audition for faculty or coaches?
Yes, in some
instances. It is recommended you contact the college individually to set
this up. See the College
Contact Information
section.
I’ve
already submitted my registration but need to change my information or
cancel. What should I do?
Once you have
clicked the Submit Form on the Registration
page, your registration details will be sent directly to each college
our university you chose from the drop down lists. Then, you will receive
follow up directly from that college or university via email or a phone
call if you provided a telephone number. If you need to change or cancel
your registration, simply contact
the college directly
or submit a new registration.
What
is financial aid and where can I find some basic information to get started?
During your
campus visit, financial aid staff will be available to answer specific
questions about financial aid. Briefly, financial aid is money loaned
or given to you to help you pay for college expenses, including: tuition,
books, housing and meals. If you get a loan, you don’t have to pay
it back until after you graduate from college, leave college, or drop
below half-time enrollment .
The Free Application
for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is the application used to determine
a student’s eligibility for federally subsidized loans, grants and
work-study funds. Although some colleges still accept paper FAFSAs, processing
is quicker when FAFSA is filed on the Web athttp://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
General information on awards, scholarships, grants, from the state of
Kansas can be found here.
I
participated in Kansas Private College Week last year—has anything
changed?
The first Kansas
Private College Week was held in June of 2006. As we move forward with
planning steps for KPCW 2008, we encourage and invite suggestions from
those who participated in the event last year. We continually seek to
form the process to make the experience both enjoyable and informative
for students and parents alike. Again, if you would like to visit further
about KPCW, please email Mark
Millikan
or call 1-877-GO2-KPCW.
